SHOWS THAT KICKED MY ASS: PART 3
I wasn’t even planning on going to this show.

I had heard about Marilyn Manson just a little bit. I has
seen them on Headbanger’s Ball and only heard about
two of their songs. But, as it happened, someone I knew
at college had an extra ticket and asked me if I wanted
to go.

This was the first and only time I went to the old 9:30
Club which was a tiny 300 person room with a support
beam in the middle of the floor in front of the stage and
slight infestation of rats. Sometimes you could feel them
running over your feet in the dark.

This was another show where I went from being a casual
fan to a huge fan within a span of minutes. When the
opening act, Monster Voodoo Machine the room was
going nuts. There was no security in front of the stage
so people where stage-diving left and right. When
Mason came on, all that stopped and the crowd was
instantly divided into those who were surging towards
the stage and those who could not get to the back of the
club fast enough.

Of course, I was belly up to the stage.

There was a high freak factor to the show…probably
because the singer was only wearing a jock strap and
combat boots and the bass player was tall dreadlocked
fellow wearing a baby-doll dress.

They would go on the get huge, but to me, this band
would never be as good as this again.
